What drove you to a career in Technology?

Since my college days, I have been very fond of technologies and programming. I feel working in the tech industry has its own perks like flexibility to work from anywhere, high wages, opportunities to work on new technologies and stand out in the rapidly growing technology world.

Were there any struggles for you to build a presence in Technology space?

Yes, there is always a struggle when technology gets improved or changed. I can see there are a lot of recent improvements in new technologies in the current world. For example, now we are running behind ReactJS instead of Java and Spring. So, the technology can change at any time and the changes are implemented in a short period as well. We need to prepare for the change in advance to be competitive.

Another question is how to overcome these situations where change comes quickly. We need to spend time reading and learning new technologies. Take, for example, Virtual Reality gadgets. Facebook invented the oculus with new virtual reality technology and it is definitely going to become a disruptive trend in the near future. If we predict this kind of change in the technology world, we need to start spending time to learn the basics. This will give you a new experience and induce your brain to learn more.

My formula for learning new technology is pretending to be an infant and telling myself “I don’t know anything about it and I need to learn from the basics.” Even though I have 12 years of experience as a technology developer, I have used this sentence many times in my career. The reason behind this is that once you accept that you don’t know anything about a particular technology, you will start to learn from the basics and not be confused with the current technology.

What has your experience been to ‘find your place’ at Bitwise?

I always pride myself on being a Bitwiser. I have been with Bitwise for a relatively short time – 3 years – but in this span Bitwise has really earned my trust. Valleys and peaks are the nature of our technology landscape and at a difficult situation the support from Bitwise held me together and motivated me to breeze through the valleys of my journey. The cherry on the cake was being promptly valued through a promotion for the potential they recognized in me.

There is always a question running on my mind, “What do I do for Bitwise in return?” This question makes me find a place in Bitwise. The company’s inclusive and open work culture has enabled me to expand my job duties beyond my regular work, provide my suggestions and feedback when needed, participate in volunteer work with Bitwise Foundation, and spend time on learning and certifications.
